My sculptures adorn the shapes. "A self-taught sculptor who has become fashionable, a citizen of the world anchored in Old Nice, Michel Anthony summarizes his art in a few words: The life and work of this navigator, that nothing predestined for life artist, yet deserves some additional lines.."
At the age of 8, Michel collects rubber in the rubber fields of Malaysia. Modest family, difficult life, odd jobs ... His ambitions push him to take off, destination the South Seas, the Indian Ocean, Strait of Oman.
"My inspirations come as well from inside me as from my experiences on the boats." Having become a professional skipper, he runs a wholesale fishing agency in Ceylon: blue marlin, yellowfin, hammerhead shark.
"Dress Up" stars with Ken Scott
These colors, he will find them a few years later in Milan at Ken Scott, an American painter passed fashion designer, who will revolutionize Italian fashion in the 80s. Ken Scott is then the magician of "Flower Power" and its colors will burst on prestigious creations.
Michel Anthony is his first assistant. He manages the color chart, mixes colors by hand, draws the fabrics that dress such prestigious clients as Brigitte Bardot, Princess Durusheva or Jackie Kennedy ...
From Milan to Nice
The "disciple" follows at the same time the courses of Fine Arts School of Brera as well as those of the School of Applied Arts of Castello in Milan. "From my experiences in fashion, I kept the taste of dressing, the taste of tuning the colors (...)"
It is from this period that his first paintings date, abstractions of which he still continues to order colors and geometric shapes.
To give himself completely to the sculpture, Michel Anthony decides to leave Milan and settles in Nice.
Bronze of Pietrasanta
Bronze sculpture requires not only artistic qualities, but also a flawless realization. After some unsatisfactory local experiences, Michel Anthony decides to find a foundry that meets his expectations and technical requirements.
In Italy, in Pietrasanta near Carrara, there is the famous Del Chiaro foundry, where Botero and the great international artists work. Bronze, polishing and patina have a quality that does not exist anywhere else.
But do not go to Pietrasanta who wants. Places are rare. This is even a challenge. With his only passion as a sesame, Michel Anthony knocked on the door of the foundry. Guessing a true talent of artist, the owner gives him without hesitation the keys of this paradise.
BronzeSa first sculpture wins the First Prestige Prize of Europe, in Nice in 2005. Other awards follow, such as the Jury Prize for Sculpture, Aigle de Nice.
In his studio on Rue Droite, Michel Anthony continues to create and honor institutional and private orders from Malaysia, Japan and Italy. There is undeniably a kind Anthony: cosmic, light, symbolic.
"I make a sketch, in pencil on paper, then I paint it on canvas, and from there, I make the plaster model. If the technique is traditional - that of the lost wax - my influences are American: Ken Scott of course, but also Susan Nevelson and Sylvia Braverman. "
